Diet and Nutrition

Hope everyone is well and feeling good after Christmas. In just a couple of days we will be welcoming 2021 and many of us are starting to think of New Year’s resolutions and, in my experience, changing our diet habits, losing weight, feeling our best and energetic is usually at the top of that list! Would you want to look and feel your best? The answer typically is yes, of course!

We all are aware of the 5-a-day concept, lower calorie intake, exercising, different types of diet yet tend to still be overweight and overindulge a little too often. Why does that happen? Why do we self-sabotage and prevent ourselves from feeling and looking our best?

I think a lot of it is deeply ingrained in us and our society. Things like fatty foods tastes better; you have to eat meat to get enough protein, iron and other minerals; dairy products are the best source for calcium when in reality it couldn’t be further from the truth – you can get your vitamins and minerals from other non-dairy and non-meat products as well as additional nutritional value.

Diet and nutrition is a very complex subject and is totally individual. Many studies have been completed by scientists and nutritionists and all seem to find many grey areas.

For the last 12 years I have been eating a pescetarian diet and it seems to be working well for me. I often get compliments that I look a lot younger than my chronological age and most importantly I feel a lot better too. What’s even more interesting is that my fiancé has eaten the same diet for the last 10 months, with the exception of may be having some meat once a month, and I can honestly say he is looking his best in shape and a lot brighter and healthier in skin. We have also recently watched an episode of the Goop Lab documentary on Netflix where converting to a pescetarian diet for 21 days reduced biological age by over a year (they also tested a vegan diet and a 5-day fasting regime).

I respect people’s choices and by no means trying to preach my diet. Just like a peanut can be nutritious for one but deadly for another.

When it comes to losing weight, I believe that we need to find that inner switch inside us, make a conscious decision and stick to it. I do think it is okay to have a day off and have that slice of cake, just make sure it’s not too many. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels!
