Decisions and Indecisions

Do you like to face your problems and make life changing decisions? Do you prefer to go with the flow and see what happens? Do you overthink and overanalyse? Or do you tend to avoid making decisions and hoping it will somehow sort itself out?

Let’s look into making life changes and finding inner strength and courage to make decisions. A change can be positive and negative and if you think about it, change is almost inevitable. Technological innovation (for example, artificial intelligence), getting older, failing at something and death are all inevitable and are outside of our control. Focusing on things we can control but choose not to is, however, another story.

What’s interesting is that most people consciously know what changes they need to make to benefit them, but still don’t do it. People remain in:

  • jobs for years because of their income or they are comfortable in the environment, fearing change and starting from zero somewhere new
  • unhappy relationships because of the fear of the unknown
  • a home that is unsuitable for the life you want to live because of the stresses a move can bring
  • the shape they are in as the work they need to put in to change (diet or exercise) is hard

This is all despite the potential positives making that important decision could bring. Staying in your comfort zone is not always bad, but is it the kind of life you’ve always wanted and dreamt of?! We see many quotes saying how “life begins at the end of a comfort zone” and it appears to be very true.

So how can we find that inner strength, motivation and extra push to move up a zone?

Looking inside yourself and finding your “why” may be very helpful in understanding and finding your purpose. What drives you? What excites you? How do you want to contribute to the world? What is your “why”?

Focusing on the end result and not necessarily on the difficulties of the process of getting there can keep you motivated in achieving your goal. Have you ever noticed when you focus on something, you start seeing it everywhere? For example, when you want to buy something you start seeing/noticing it a lot more. Where your focus goes, energy flows. Try focusing on and visualising the end result.

Another helpful step for some people may be overcoming how they identify themselves. For example, their job (i.e. the industry you are in defining your character traits), what clothes they wear, where they live may keep them stuck in a comfort zone and prevent them from growing and achieving what they actually want. Should you want to get outside a comfort zone, try to look beyond your identity and at the bigger picture.

Making a life changing decision is never easy and you never know what can happen. Look at this year’s pandemic – who would have thought?! I have just moved home, hence this post is a day later than I had hoped, and sure enough it was a hard decision to make as I have had to let go of a part of my own identity for a bigger purpose and more important reasons.

Be brave and have courage to make changes in your life. I sure have made quite a few and never had regrets or looked back. We are not perfect and can make mistakes. That’s how we can learn about the world and ourselves, and hopefully understand our being just a little bit more!
